According to his biography, Dan Ward was raised in Central Virginia and attended Virginia public schools before graduating from Vanderbilt University on a NROTC scholarship. After graduation, he spent 25 years in the Marine Corps flying attack jets in combat missions over Iraq, Bosnia and Kosovo. Dan served as a senior military advisor in President Obama's State Department, where he was promoted to Colonel and ran large programs in Syria and Ukraine, before retiring in late 2014. He now lives on a farm in Orange, VA with his wife. They have two children in college.
