The national Veterans group, with over 220,000 supporters, VoteVets Action Fund, is announcing three new ad buys, totaling $1.25 million.  The group will be airing a new ad in Nebraska for $300,000, extending a previous ad buy in Virginia, by $750,000, and airing a new ad in Ohio, at $200,000.  This brings total spending in 2012 by VoteVets.org Action Fund to $6.5 million.

NEBRASKA

In Nebraska, VoteVets Action Fund is airing $300,000 in ads that compare the service of Bob Kerrey with Deb Fischer’s craven land-grab attempt.  In the ad, a narrator says, “The land of the free, and the home of the brave.  These are America’s ideals and Nebraska values.  But Deb Fischer turned her back on those values, suing her elderly neighbors to take their land.  The court ruled against her greedy land-grab.  While fighting for our country, Bob Kerrey was awarded our nation’s highest honor.  Bob Kerrey fought to protect our land.  Deb Fischer fought to take land that wasn’t hers.  Ask Deb Fischer if your land is next.”

The ad refers to a lawsuit that Deb Fischer filed and lost, in which she sued her neighbors in an attempt to take their land for herself.

OHIO

In Ohio, the group is going up on the air with $200,000 behind an ad that touts the fighting spirit of Senator Sherrod Brown.  The ad will run until Tuesday.  The ad features Ohio Air Force Veteran Bob Thurman.  In the ad, he says, “When you’re in the military, you know a good fighter when you see one.  And there’s not a tougher fighter for Ohio’s Veterans, than Senator Sherrod Brown.  Sherrod Brown fought for educational benefits in a new GI Bill, and increases in Veterans care.  And he’s getting more training for our young vets, while giving tax breaks to businesses that hire returning Veterans.  Senator Brown, as the Veteran of one fight, I salute your fight to protect Ohio’s Veterans.”

Senator Brown has a strong record on Veterans issues, as laid out in the ad.  Senator Brown consistently supported a new GI Bill for veterans, and voted multiple times to add billions of dollars to Veterans care in the budget.  Senator Brown supported the Vow to Hire Heroes Act, which gave tax breaks to businesses that hire veterans, and supported funding for job training programs for veterans.

VIRGINIA

In Virginia, VoteVets Action Fund, along with the United Food and Commercial Workers, is expanding the buy of its recently released ad regarding George Allen’s veterans record, by $750,000.

The ad features Iraq and Afghanistan War Veteran from Virginia, David Nasse.  In the ad, he says,“There are over 800,000 veterans, like me, living in Virginia.  Time and again, George Allen has turned his back on us.  He voted to let health care premiums triple for three million military retirees, and voted against billions for veterans care.  And George Allen said, ‘Whatever the government program is, no matter how essential it is, it is a waste.’  If George Allen thinks veterans programs are a waste, maybe voting for him is the real waste.”
