"More than satisfied that the Department is quickly moving in the right direction"
WASHINGTON - Following a brief from the Department of Veterans Affairs on how the agency is tackling recent issues that have cropped up due to a heavy load of veterans applying for benefits under the new GI Bill, VoteVets.org's Legislative Director and Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran Brian McGough released the following statement:
"Like any new program, the initial phase will always see some errors. That doesn't make them excusable, or make life easier on the receiving end of those mistakes, but does make them to be expected. The question is how an agency responds. And, on this question, after learning more about how the VA is striving to improve the process for GI Bill applications and distribution of certificates of eligibility, VoteVets.org is more than satisfied that the Department is quickly moving in the right direction. Additionally, the VA is working overtime to resolve all issues faced by those who had problems getting approved in time for school this semester.
"One does have to keep in mind that issues with GI Bill applications have only come about because of the tremendous desire by veterans to take part in the program. A massive number of applications - over 270,000 -- have been received for new GI Bill benefits, in just a few months. This validates the efforts of veterans groups like VoteVets.org, who ran ads and mobilized grassroots to get Congress to pass the new GI Bill."
