$245,000 Buy Will Blanket Iowa Television

DES MOINES, IA – The veterans group, VoteVets.org, is blanketing Iowa with a $245,000 television ad buy, this week, that thanks Governor Terry Branstad, Congressman Bruce Braley, and the entire Iowa delegation, for fighting to protect the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), and biofuels made in Iowa.  The ad will be seen on cable and broadcast television, across the state.

The ad features Jeff Lindeman, a Desert Storm and Afghanistan Veteran, from Iowa City.

The full ad can be viewed here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFugR28g2JQ .  A full script of the ad is below.

In the ad, Lindeman makes it clear that protecting the RFS means protecting our nation and our troops, saying that more renewable fuels made here means “less oil money going to enemies who threaten our troops overseas.”  He also thanks Governor Branstad, Congressman Braley, and the Iowa delegation for “demanding Washington keep their promise to invest in more renewable fuels like the kind here in Iowa.”

Although the United States often does not directly buy oil from hostile nations, like Iran, America’s dependence on oil drives up demand, and prices of oil on the world market, which benefits all oil-rich nations.  Those oil dollars allowed Iran, for instance, to produce and ship Explosively Formed Penetrators (EFPs) to Iraqi insurgents, who used them to target our troops.

VoteVets has been extremely active on the issue of the RFS, having launched a previous television ad on the issue, a full page ad in the Des Moines Register last week, challenging Senator Ted Cruz’s opposition to biofuels and the RFS, and collecting over 120,000 petition signatures supporting the RFS, which VoteVets hand delivered, along with Congressman Braley, earlier in the year.

Founded in 2006,  and backed by over 400,000 supporters, the mission of VoteVets.org is to use public issue campaigns and direct outreach to lawmakers to ensure that troops abroad have what they need to complete their missions, and receive the care they deserve when they get home.  VoteVets.org also recognizes veterans as a vital part of the fabric of our country and will work to protect veterans' interests in their day-to-day lives.   VoteVets.org is committed to the destruction of terror networks around the world - with force when necessary - to protect America.  While non-partisan, the group is the largest progressive organization of veterans in America.
