Powerful new television ad features World War II Veteran and Korea-Era Veteran standing up for Braley

Des Moines – A powerful new television ad will begin running today in Iowa, featuring two Iowa veterans, explaining that Iowa politics has become too caustic, and that despite attack ads to the contrary, Congressman Bruce Braley has always had the backs of veterans.  The ad will run for one week, at a cost of $550,000.  It is being sponsored by VoteVets Action Fund, a 501c4 veterans group with over 400,000 supporters.  In addition to the new television ad, VoteVets Action Fund also announced a $100,000 reservation of radio time, bringing the total amount of new advertising to $650,000.

You can view the TV ad here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuWp2hFrB7M .  A full script is below.

The TV ad features Clair Harper, a World War II veteran, and Ione Shadduck, who was a part of the Women’s Army Corps during Korea.

In the ad, the veterans trade lines, saying, “A lot’s changed, especially politics.  When New York billionaires attack a good man like Bruce Braley, that’s wrong.  As the son of a Marine, Bruce always fights for vets.  He helped hundreds of troops get overdue combat pay.  Trust us. Bruce is on our side.”

The ad being watched, and referenced in the VoteVets spot is an ad funded by the billionaire Koch Brothers, which calls into question Braley’s commitment to veterans, and has blanketed Iowa airwaves.

Indeed, Braley has a long and proud record of helping veterans.  As referenced in the ad, he fought the Pentagon, and secured combat pay for 800 Iowa Guard members, for their service in Afghanistan and Iraq. Braley also secured GI Bill benefits for over 600 Iowa Guard members.  Bruce Braley wrote the law which helped disabled veterans remodel their homes, so they could remain in them, with their new disability.  And, Bruce Braley logged extensive hours trying to help fix the backlog of VA appointments and claims, personally helping 70 veterans from his district.

Founded in 2006,  and backed by over 360,000 supporters, the mission of VoteVets.org is to use public issue campaigns and direct outreach to lawmakers to ensure that troops abroad have what they need to complete their missions, and receive the care they deserve when they get home.  VoteVets.org also recognizes veterans as a vital part of the fabric of our country and will work to protect veterans' interests in their day-to-day lives.   VoteVets.org is committed to the destruction of terror networks around the world - with force when necessary - to protect America.  While non-partisan, the group is the largest progressive organization of veterans in America.
