PRESS RELEASE - Veterans Respond to President Obama's Speech On Libya

 ·  VoteVets.org, Press Release

Washington, DC - The largest progressive group of veterans in America, VoteVets.org, is responding to the President's speech on military operations in Libya last evening.  The group says too many question still remain unanswered.  In a statement, Iraq War Veteran and Interim Chairman of VoteVets.org, Ashwin Madia said:

"Though we were hopeful that the President would answer some pressing questions about our military operation in Libya, satisfactorily enough for us to support it, we still cannot.  The President delivered a very well crafted speech, and we were heartened to hear that leadership will be transferred to NATO, but he still has not answered one very large question:  What metrics are we using to determine when our military mission is complete?  What is the goal, the endstate?

"Further, while he did touch upon a coalition lessening the financial burden on the United States, and explained that Libyan assets would be used to rebuild Libya, military  operations still will cost us many millions of dollars, and the President did not explain where that money will come from.  Finally, we are still concerned that the President has not truly consulted with Congress, or received its approval for military action.  The President explained that it took several days to plan operations with our allies.  Why couldn't the administration have consulted with Congress, as well, during that time?  Why will the Administration not do so now?"

Founded in 2006,  and backed by over 100,000 members, the mission of VoteVets.org is to use public issue campaigns and direct outreach to lawmakers to ensure that troops abroad have what they need to complete their missions, and receive the care they deserve when they get home.  VoteVets.org also recognizes veterans as a vital part of the fabric of our country and will work to protect veterans' interests in their day-to-day lives.   VoteVets.org is committed to the destruction of terror networks around the world - with force when necessary - to protect America.  While non-partisan, the group is the largest progressive organization of veterans in America.
