SOUTH BEND, IND. - As Congressman Joe Donnelly takes part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for construction of an expanded Veterans Affairs (VA) center in South Bend, today, a national veterans organization representing over 105,000 members is cheering Donnelly's hard work to make it a reality.

"Congressman Donnelly worked tirelessly since he got to Congress to provide better services to veterans in the area," said Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran and Chairman of VoteVets.org.  "For too many area veterans, the ability to get care was hampered by the distance they had to travel to get care.  Now, thanks to Congressman Donnelly, veterans will have top notch care in their own backyard."

Over $6.7 million was appropriated last year by Congress for expansion of a VA community-based outpatient clinic in South Bend - funds that Congressman Donnelly long fought for.  According to a press release from Donnelly's office, the expanded clinic will be a leased, 65,000 square foot facility, nearly 10 times the size of the current South Bend clinic.  It will offer primary care; expanded mental health care; laboratory, radiology, audiology, and pharmacy services; and outreach programs for newly-returning veterans.  The VA expects to open the new facility in 2015.

Donnelly also successfully fought for funds for an expansion of veterans health services in Logansport, Goshen, and Peru, Ind.

Founded in 2006,  and backed by over 100,000 members, the mission of VoteVets.org is to use public issue campaigns and direct outreach to lawmakers to ensure that troops abroad have what they need to complete their missions, and receive the care they deserve when they get home.  VoteVets.org also recognizes veterans as a vital part of the fabric of our country and will work to protect veterans' interests in their day-to-day lives.   VoteVets.org is committed to the destruction of terror networks around the world - with force when necessary - to protect America.  While non-partisan, the group is the largest progressive organization of veterans in America.
