WASHINGON, DC - The largest progressive group of veterans in America, with over 400,000 supporters, today lambasted Donald Trump for using veterans as a prop to hide behind, while he evades questions from FOX News’ Megyn Kelly, by skipping the next Republican debate. Trump announced that he will hold an event for veterans, instead.
“Let me put this in language Donald Trump understands,” said Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran and Chairman of VoteVets.org. “You’re a loser. You’re a third-rate politician, who clearly doesn’t understand issues, and is so scared of Megyn Kelly exposing it, that you’re looking to use veterans to protect you from facing her questions. Your so-called veterans’ plan on your website is a joke, and refers to the agency as the “Veterans Administration,” even though it has been called the “Department of Veterans Affairs” for almost 30 years. It’s pathetic.”
Indeed, at DonaldJTrump.com, Mr. Trump’s issues page refers to the “Veterans Administration,” even though the agency was granted Cabinet-level status in 1988, and was renamed the Department of Veterans Affairs. (Screenshot below, in case his campaign changes it)
VoteVets.org also noted that while the Trump plan was light on details, Hillary Clinton’s plan for veterans was comprehensive, and Bernie Sanders, in the Senate, introduced numerous, detailed pieces of legislation to help veterans.
Founded in 2006, and backed by over 400,000 supporters, the mission of VoteVets.org is to use public issue campaigns and direct outreach to lawmakers to ensure that troops abroad have what they need to complete their missions, and receive the care they deserve when they get home. VoteVets.org also recognizes veterans as a vital part of the fabric of our country and will work to protect veterans' interests in their day-to-day lives. VoteVets.org is committed to the destruction of terror networks around the world - with force when necessary - to protect America. While non-partisan, the group is the largest progressive organization of veterans in America.
