“Ted Lieu’s story is about as American as you can get”

TORRANCE, CA – The largest progressive group of veterans in America, with over 400,000 supporters, VoteVets PAC, is endorsing State Senator Ted Lieu’s campaign to become the next Member of Congress from California’s 33rd Congressional District.

“Ted Lieu’s story is about as American as you can get,” said Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran and Chairman of VoteVets.org.  “Having come to America, and growing up poor, Ted could have dedicated his life to just taking care of himself.  Instead, he gave back to the country that welcomed him in, by volunteering to serve in uniform.  That says a lot about his character and his priorities.  Not only will he be a great advocate for veterans, but his selflessness means that he will be a tireless advocate for the people of his Southern California district.  We’re so proud to endorse him, today.”

A child of immigrants, and an immigrant himself, at 3 years old, Ted Lieu served America’s Armed Forces as a member of the Air Force.  He served on active duty, both stateside and abroad for four years.  When he was on active duty at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, he participated in Operation PACIFIC HAVEN, which airlifted thousands of Kurds out of northern Iraq and brought them to Guam before Saddam Hussein could roll in and attack them.  For his service, he was awarded the Air Force Humanitarian Service Medal and two Meritorious Service Medals. In 2012, Ted graduated from Air War College.

Founded in 2006, the mission of VoteVets.org Political Action Committee is to elect Veterans to public office, with a focus on Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, and hold public officials accountable for their words and actions that impact America's 21st century troops and veterans. Though VoteVets.org PAC is non-partisan, candidates it backs must support VoteVets.org's core mission and beliefs.
