VoteVets.org Cheers Pick of John Kerry to be Secretary of State, Calls for Consideration of Hagel at Defense

 ·  VoteVets.org, Press Release

Washington, DC - The largest progressive group of Veterans in America, VoteVets.org, today is cheering President Obama's choice of John Kerry to be the next Secretary of State.

In a statement, Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran and Chairman of VoteVets.org, said:

"For years, I have been proud to call Senator John Kerry a friend, but even more proud to call him a friend of our troops, veterans, and reasonable and responsible foreign policy.  Secretary Clinton is a near impossible act to follow, and has easily been one of the very best Secretaries of State in American history.  But if anyone is up to the task, it is Senator Kerry.  With him as Secretary of State, we will continue to strengthen our alliances around the world, which leads to a lessened chance of needing to take military action down the road.  That's good for our security, and good for our military.

"We now hope that President Obama is not deterred by right-wing swiftboating of another Vietnam Veteran, in Senator Chuck Hagel, and will consider him for Secretary of Defense.  Chuck Hagel and John Kerry at Defense and State, respectively, would be a true Dream Team for those of us who served."

Founded in 2006,  and backed by over 220,000 members, the mission of VoteVets.org is to use public issue campaigns and direct outreach to lawmakers to ensure that troops abroad have what they need to complete their missions, and receive the care they deserve when they get home.  VoteVets.org also recognizes veterans as a vital part of the fabric of our country and will work to protect veterans' interests in their day-to-day lives.   VoteVets.org is committed to the destruction of terror networks around the world - with force when necessary - to protect America.  While non-partisan, the group is the largest progressive organization of veterans in America.
