VoteVets PAC endorses John Plumb for Congress

WASHINGTON, DC – The largest progressive group of veterans in America, representing over 400,000 veterans, troops, military families and civilian supporters, VoteVets PAC, today is endorsing John Plumb in his race for Congress in New York’s 23rd Congressional District.

“John really embodies the spirit of service and community that makes our nation’s veterans such a rare breed,” said Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran and Chairman of VoteVets PAC.  “The people of Western New York will never have to worry about John forgetting who he is there to serve, because that service really has stretched throughout his life.  In addition, his first-hand knowledge of military and security issues is needed, now more than ever.  It is a dangerous world, but John knows what it takes to keep America safe and secure.”

According to his biography, John Plumb, a fourth-generation Western New Yorker, attended the University of Notre Dame on a Navy ROTC scholarship.  After graduating from Notre Dame, John earned a Master’s Degree in Physics from the University of Colorado before being commissioned as an officer in the US Navy.  After serving as a submarine officer, John earned a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado.

He spent over six years on active duty, including nearly three years on the U.S.S. San Juan, a fast attack submarine. John remains active in the Navy Reserve, where he currently holds the rank of Commander and serves as Commanding Officer of a Maritime Operations Center reserve detachment. In 2007, John was mobilized and deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

John has focused his civilian career on addressing some of our nation’s pressing national security challenges while working in the Senate, the Pentagon and the White House. He has served as Principal Director of Nuclear and Missile Defense Policy at the U.S. Department of Defense and most recently as a Director of Defense Policy and Strategy on the National Security Council staff.

For his work as a civil servant, John has received awards from the Department of Defense, Department of State, and Department of Energy. John’s military decorations include the Navy Commendation, Army Commendation, Navy Achievement, and Navy Expeditionary Medals, and he has qualified as an expert on pistol and sharpshooter on rifle.
