SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Last evening, it was reported that Donald Trump made the widow of Sgt. La David T. Johnson, who was killed in Niger, cry when he told her that he knew what he signed up for, during a phone call.  This morning, Trump took to Twitter to call the Congresswoman who relayed that story a liar.  This, after Trump lied in saying that President Obama didn’t call fallen service members’ families, and defended the lie by challenging reporters to ask Chief of Staff John Kelly if President Obama called him, when his son died.

In response to all the latest news, Karen Meredith, the Gold Star and Military Families coordinator for VoteVets, who lost her son, First Lieutenant Ken Ballard, in Iraq, released the following response to Donald Trump:

“Mr. Trump, stop. Please, just stop. Your actions and words on this entire matter of the fallen in Niger is disgraceful, and unbecoming of a President of the United States and Commander in Chief. This is not about you, it is about them. It is about all of us who lost our loved ones, in war. For once in your life, please stop making everything about you. For once in your life, at least pretend to know what empathy is. For once in your life, at least try to care about other people and their feelings.”
