BILLINGS, MT – A new television ad is being released today, featuring a Billings mom to nine kids, six of whom served in the Marines, who says that Montana Senate candidate Steve Daines hurts military families and veterans.  The ad will run for a week and a half, across broadcast and cable television, at a cost of $275,000.  It is being sponsored by the national veterans group,, which has over 400,000 veterans, military families, and civilian supporters.  The ad comes at a time when questions about care from the Department of Veterans Affairs are dominating the news, and Daines is running ads claiming to support veterans care.

A full script is below.

In the ad, Loraine Tackett says, “Being a mom to nine kids can be tough.  Even tougher with Andy and five others in the Marines Corps.”

Her son, Andy, an Iraq War Veteran continues, “Iraq vet John Walsh gets that.  He supports families like ours, by taking care of our troops and their families, both overseas, and at home.”

“But politician Steve Daines?” asks Lorraine.  “He voted against raising troops’ pay and improving veterans' health services.”

“Steve Daines is tough alright,” they conclude.  “He’s tough on Montana’s military families.”

The record is clear on Daines.  He voted against a pay raise for troops and improvement to VA services earlier this year, which were part of military and veterans appropriations (Roll Call Vote 21, Jan 15, 2014).

Meanwhile, one of John Walsh’s first bills in the Senate was to give more tools for combating the suicide epidemic among our troops and veterans.  As Lt Governor, he helped launch Network of Care, a website dedicated to the needs of veterans.

Founded in 2006,  and backed by over 400,000 supporters, the mission of is to use public issue campaigns and direct outreach to lawmakers to ensure that troops abroad have what they need to complete their missions, and receive the care they deserve when they get home. also recognizes veterans as a vital part of the fabric of our country and will work to protect veterans' interests in their day-to-day lives. is committed to the destruction of terror networks around the world - with force when necessary - to protect America.  While non-partisan, the group is the largest progressive organization of veterans in America.
