VoteVets Cheers Passage of Khanna-Gaetz Amendment on Iran

Veterans group worked House hard to ensure passage

WASHINGTON, DC – The first and largest progressive group of veterans in America, VoteVets, is cheering passage of a bipartisan House amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would prevent unauthorized war with Iran, sponsored by Reps. Ro Khanna and Matt Gaetz.  VoteVets utilized much of its political muscle to help ensure passage.

Actions the group took included:

“It should come as no surprise that when the votes were cast, military veterans in Congress -- both Democratic and Republican -- were overwhelmingly in the yes column,” said Army veteran Will Goodwin, Director of Government Relations for VoteVets. “VoteVets, working in coordination with the Concerned Veterans for America, have been lobbying nonstop to see this through -- polling briefings, one-on-one meetings, and lots of late-night phone calls. During this debate, military veteran members we have long supported were out front, helping to lead on this issue -- in committee hearings, in the press, and on the House floor.”

“We will continue to work overtime to make sure that the amendment makes it through conference committee and is in the final bill passed through Congress,” Goodwin added.
