VoteVets delivers over 50,000 signatures in support of strong RFS

Over 3300 veterans, 8000 military families say strong RFS crucial to security

WASHINGTON – Over 50,000 Americans have signed on to a statement being submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency, today, calling for a strong Renewable Fuel Standard, as part of an effort by the veterans group,, during the agency’s public comment period.  That list includes 3390 veterans and 8049 military families.

“A strong RFS means a strong America,” said retired General Wesley Clark, chair of the advisory board for VoteVets.  “We need to get serious about reducing our demand for imported oil, and the RFS is a key part of achieving that.  Ample supply and production of homegrown biofuel is a win for America. It solidifies our energy security, promotes a healthy environment and allows us to invest financial resources back into our local communities instead of abroad.”

The signatories from VoteVets co-signed the following statement, which has been sent to the EPA:

“Please preserve a strong Renewable Fuel Standard and increase America’s 2017 biofuel targets to the statutory levels called for by Congress. Weaker targets for domestic biofuels threaten the economic, environmental and energy security benefits of America’s most successful energy policy.

As veterans, military families and VoteVets supporters, we know the cost of America’s dependence on foreign oil. We cannot afford to become complacent about shielding our country against the next spike in oil prices or crisis in the Middle East.

By protecting America’s domestic energy producers from manipulation by foreign cartels, this simple policy has started a revolution that drives billions of dollars of economic activity across the U.S. and supports more than 852,000 American jobs.

More than that, investing in cleaner-burning, American-made energy saves consumers money at the pump and reduces emissions.

Don't allow special interests to set America down the wrong path. Strengthen the Renewable Fuel Standard, and keep our country on the road to true energy security.”
