VoteVets Slams Trump for Raiding Troops’ Retirement Appropriation to Fund Wall

WASHINGTON, DC — Will Goodwin, Army Veteran and Director of Government Relations for VoteVets, released the following statement on the decision of the Trump administration to take money from troops’ retirement funding, and reprogram it to fund part of the border wall.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the administration is taking $224 million that had been appropriated for the military’s Blended Retirement System. Surplus funds from that program could have been reprogrammed by Congress and the Pentagon to help troops and military families.

Goodwin said:

“It is abhorrent, unpatriotic and disgraceful that Donald Trump is raiding funds that had been appropriated for our troops’ retirements, to fund his racist wall – money that could still be used to help other military families facing hard times.  The same week he’s decided to strip servicemembers of their medals, for absolutely no reason, this smacks of total disrespect of the men and women who have put their lives on the line for this country.  Donald Trump, every day, is proving himself to be anti-troop and anti-military family.  Today, however, is a particularly egregious example of that.”
