VoteVets slams Trump's renewed call for U.S. torture

"Today, Trump put us in more danger."

WASHINGTON - Saying the US needs to "fight fire with fire," when it comes to terrorism, Donald Trump renewed his call for the US to torture people.  In a speech in Ohio, Trump asked the crowd, "What do you think of waterboarding?"  Trump then said, "I like it a lot.  I don't think it's tough enough."

The largest progressive veterans group in America,, was quick to denounce Trump.

“I cannot think of anyone happier to hear Donald Trump’s renewed call to use torture, today, than ISIS,” said Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran and Chairman of  “ISIS and other terrorists recruit very successfully off statements like those.  They recruit very successfully off statements like Trump’s proposed ban on all Muslims entering the United States.  Today, Donald Trump just made the world a more dangerous place, and helped ISIS radicalize more terrorists who will now attack us.  Today, he put us in more danger.”

"Further, for Trump to imply that he will order our troops to torture, is saying he will issue illegal orders, against the Geneva Conventions," Soltz added.  "Our commanders cannot relay illegal orders, and our troops would be well within their right to refuse such orders.  In fact, they would be compelled to.  For the first time in history, you would have a military that refuses the orders of the Commander in Chief, creating a Constitutional crisis between our civilian leadership and our military."

“Today, Donald Trump just gave more evidence that he does not have the steadiness, temperament, or even basic knowledge to be Commander in Chief,” Soltz concluded.
